Hey folks — I just wanted to let you all know I have moved across from Substack to WordPress! That includes migrating all email subscriptions across. I’ve sending this post out through Substack to make sure everyone receives it, but then will clear out all your emails so they’re not floating around in an unattended Substack account.
Why bother moving?
A couple of reasons.
When I announced a few weeks ago that I was quitting all Meta and Google apps, several people pointed out the problems with Substack’s corporate values as well.
I haven’t got a definitive position on their policies and reticence to take down problematic expressions, but it made me think a lot harder about the inherent risk of housing my platform on a platform with such a volatile political position.
As well, Substack has a really shallow adoption curve. This is the primary reason why I chose it in the first place — I wanted to be literally unable to fuss around with themes and custom features and web architechture rabbit holes, and just start writing.
Which I did, and it’s been really wonderful.
I’m at a point now where I’m ready to take a bit more control of my writing platform. I’m not planning to do anything radical, but I’d like a space to build more, perhaps beyond the newsletter itself.
I really hope you’ll pop your head in now and then to let me know if it’s any good!
See you here,
Miriam
